Appropriate health technologies (AHT's) use local and sustainable resources to help health workers throughout the world provide better care to more people.

This site has been developed to provide information on appropriate health technologies already in use. Other potential uses for the Cylinder include:
facilitation of AHT use in developing countries through South-South technology transfer
a venue for those who wish to share their AHT knowledge and experience
provide a forum for an open discussion of AHT,
a resource to support the use of AHT's in evidence-based practice
through South-to-North technology transfer, promote AHT use in developed countries to reduce the consumption of global resources
a model of appropriate information technology and a demonstration of how the internet can be used in technology transfer.

The name of the index is derived from le Cylindre, Rene Laennec's 1816 invention for listening to the lungs of his patients. Created at the bedside with only the materials at hand, it provides an excellent example of appropriate health technology. Le Cylindre later became known as the stethoscope, you can learn more about it in the index.Stevehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08925173545382058100noreply@blogger.com
